How to choose travel tech for a carry-on life
The test for anything in MOVE is simple: does it remove a problem you meet on every trip, and does it pay for its weight? Everything here except the backpack weighs under half a kilo.
Power: one charger, then one battery
Start with the charger. AirPower delivers 65 W over USB-C — enough for most USB-C laptops — and shares its power across four ports (3 × USB-C, 1 × USB-A) when everything needs charging at once. The US, EU, UK and AUS plugs clip on, covering more than 150 countries, so it replaces the travel adapter as well as the laptop brick. It weighs about 180 g.
Then add one battery. MagPower Max is the everyday one: 10,000 mAh, roughly two full phone charges, Qi2 magnetic charging up to 15 W, plus USB-C PD 20 W and USB-A 22.5 W for wired top-ups. MagPower Pro is for people who carry the full Apple set — it charges iPhone, AirPods and Apple Watch at the same time from 5,000 mAh and folds into a phone stand.
Tracking: know where your things are
Four products here work with Apple Find My: the AirLock suitcase lock, the AirPass passport wallet, the MagCard Pro card holder and the AirPack backpack. There is no app to install and no subscription — they appear next to your phone and keys. Find My is an Apple network, so locating them needs an iPhone.
If you take only one, take it for whatever leaves your sight: the checked bag (AirLock) or the passport (AirPass).
Work and flights
AirStand Pro lifts the laptop through ten height steps to eye level, then folds to 30 × 23 × 2 cm and about 450 g. AirPro plugs into the seat-back jack so two pairs of wireless headphones work on the in-flight entertainment, with up to 11 hours per charge over Bluetooth 5.3.
Three kits that work together
- The airport kit — AirLock, AirPass and MagCard Pro: everything that leaves your sight, findable from your phone.
- The desk kit — AirStand Pro, AirPower and MagPower Max: a workstation from any table and one socket.
- The flight kit — AirPro and MagPower Pro: your own headphones on the seat-back screen, and every Apple device charged when you land.
What is not here, and why
- Plug adapters that only adapt: AirPower already carries the plugs and charges four devices.
- Oversized power banks: two phone charges covers a travel day, and heavier cells cost weight on every trip.
- Trackers that need their own app: the Find My items use the network your iPhone already has.
